I always love some girl time with my friends, and the long weekend a few weeks back was just perfect as we all sat over looking the stunning Watsons Bay, soaking up the winter sunshine and sipping cocktails together. It was then that we found my nearest and dearest pouring out their skincare/cosmetic issues and frustrations and basically begging me to help them in all things skincare and make up!!
As I listened to each of them talk about their concerns, thoughts and general bewilderment on all things make up and skincare, I came to realise that there are so many of us out there that; to put it frank are sitting silently and helplessly and basically playing guessing games when it comes to what skincare and make up items they should use. For the first time I started to really understand and see how valuable my knowledge and advice is and that I really want to try and help here!
So, if the thought of walking down the cosmetics aisle in priceline or approaching a make up or skincare counter at DJ's makes your head go into sudden panic and blurr with product overload? Do not fear ladies! I am going to try my very best to help!
Step 1: Look after your skin! Your skin is the foundation to which your make up sits on, the healthier your skin the better your make up will look, feel and sit on it. Invest in some time with a skincare therapist, maybe book in for a facial and have them prescribe some suitable products for you. Having a background in skincare and as well as my love for all things make up I am also passionate about the skin! Some of my fave brands over the years are Guinot, Dermalogica, Medik8 and Ella Bache. My skincare products have changed over the years, naturally, as my has done also! As I've hit my 30's (and become a Mum!) I have most certainly noticed those first signs of ageing starting to appear. My personal GO TO products each day at the moment are:
Step 2: I also recommend adding serums, SPF's and skin primers if possible! (I will leave links to each brand for you to browse further at the end of the blog)
Step 3: Find out what REALLY is in your products and the % of each active ingredient. Good skincare can come at a cost I know but I believe it really is an investment in keeping your skin healthy from the inside out. The reason some of these products are more costly than some of the products you would find in a chemist or Priceline/Boots store is the time and pharmaceutical input and ingredients that have gone into creating and making that particular product. You may be someone that wears make up everyday or you may be someone that likes a minimal look or even not wear any most days at all! Good skincare is for everyone (including our men!)
Step 4: When possible, allow your skin to breathe if you do wear make up everyday. Cleansing our skin at the end of each day before we go to bed is so so so important as thats the time when your skin starts to work! Your cell turnover increases and skin renewal takes place = healthier, stronger, clearer skin!
As I mentioned earlier maybe think about booking in at a skincare salon for a facial and ask the skin therapist for some samples for you to try. At the end of the day ladies we all need some time out every now and again!
I'm interested in finding out what WE as women look for and want when it comes to our skincare and make up products. Smell? Texture? Packaging? Cost? Over the coming weeks, I am going to be investigating more into this and blogging on some key make up tips and products so watch this space!
In the meantime I hope some or all of this helps you and here's to happy new skin!
