Bridal Expo | Royal Motor Yacht Club | Broken Bay

I absolutely love working at bridal expos and festivals. It's such a lovely way to meet excited new Brides to be; their partners and their families, as well as having the opportunity to work alongside other local wedding suppliers and businesses.

I was fortunate enough to asked to do the make up for the models at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Broken Bay for a photo-shoot promoting their stunning wedding venue.

Being a waterside venue and meters from the beautiful northern beaches, I created a make up look taking the natural sunlight, and venue style into account and after viewing the gorgeous lace detailed dresses and bouquets on display, I opted for a beachy, glowing skin, blushed, natural look. With all of my Brides I love to contour! especially with outdoor weddings where the natural sunlight gently hits the cheek and brow bones perfectly. It really does make such a difference and on your photos too! Just be careful not to go overboard and ensure to bend….a good quality highlighter is worth the investment as I have already mentioned in a previous blog. My go to's are: Ambient Glow by Hourglass, Soft & Gentle powder by MAC and Candlelight Glow by Too Faced:

Emmy Envy!

Absolutely frothing over some of the gorgeous looks on the red carpet at this years Emmy Awards!

One of my faves has to be Sarah Hyland's make up…ok I admit, the whole look is just stunning! Love the hair, the dress, the colours, and can i just say THOSE BROWS! even i'll admit, the bling earrings! Just everything about this look I love.

Sarah wore a deep burgundy Zac Posen dress. The rich, warm shades complemented her naturally golden olive complexion beautifully. Sarah's long time make up artist Allan Avendano used a selection of Dior make up to create this stunning look. I for one am going to invest in this eye palette!

For the eye make up he used Dior 5 Couleurs Cosmopolite Eyeshadow Palettes in electric #866 and Exuberante #766. For the skin he used Diorskin Star Foundation in Honey Beige #040
Diorskin Nude 'Cosmopolite' Illuminating Face Powder #001, Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow, Invisible Loose Powder in Light Beige #020 and Diorskin Nude Shimmer Instant Illuminating Powders in Pink #001 and Amber #002.

I love how the lips were kept neutral and matte (Dior Addict Lipstick in Tallieur bar #535) as to not detract from the shimmery, dazzling eye make up. This created a perfect contrast.

I cant wait to try this look out! Hx

Carmen & Davyn Wedding | March 2015

I always love to receive images from my Brides from the wedding day and I just had to blog about this particularly special one!

Earlier this year my friend Carmen married Davyn the man of her dreams! Carmen will always hold a special place in my heart, as almost 10 years ago (along with her Sister Kirst) she was one of the first people I met when I arrived in Australia!

10 years on; and I had the honour doing Carmen's Bridal make up along with her Mum and Bridesmaids for her wedding day. It was such an honour to be part of it and to help Carmen and the girls prepare for the big day. You all looked beautiful! and thank you Carmen for having me be a part of it.

Carmen opted for a natural look for her and her Bridesmaids. For Carmen's make up we defined the eyes by using MAC liquid eyeliner (waterproof!) and added Elyure false lashes to add a bit of wow! Cheeks were gently contoured using Benefit contour powder kit and MAC blush in peaches.  MAC highlighting powder in Lightscapde was used on the cheekbones to lift and brighten.

The girls got ready at Carmen's parents (Judy and Dieter) beautiful home in St Ives and were married in the glorious Autumn sunshine at Narrabeen beach on the Northern Beaches, followed by a reception at the picturesque Narrabeen Surf Club.

I had the pleasure of working with a very talented and creative team last month and together we managed to create some beautiful images. I was so excited about doing the hair and make up for this shoot and after months of preparation and creative discussions, I love how the final look came together on the day.

The make up used to create the look included MAC highlighting powder in Lightscapade, NARS liquid foundation, MAC eye palette, Benefit contour powder kit, Erin Bigg Cosmetics eye liner in Onyx, MAC blush in peaches, Elyure lashes in style "oh honey", MAC mineralize skinfinish powder, MAC lipstick in Jubilee.

Natalie & Lee | 13th June 2015 | The Surprise Wedding

Last month I had the pleasure of doing the Bridal make up for Natalie and her Mum. The Bride was also celebrating her 30th Birthday on 13th June and had invited numerous friends and family to attend her party at the iconic Doltone House in Sydney that evening to celebrate; unknowing to everyone that she and her fiancé were actually getting married!!

The Bride wore her Mum's very own vintage wedding dress and accessorised with beautiful pastel coloured blooms and the couple married in the sunshine of Bradford Park in North Sydney.

I was so excited when I first spoke to Nat about her surprise wedding plans and this wedding had style written all over it! from the dress and flowers to the locations chosen; Nat's vintage style themed wedding suited her perfectly and I have loved seeing how all her ideas and our chats about her wedding make up style and colours all came together on the big day.

IMG_4326.JPG

Nat's bridal make up look was created using a variety of make up by Younique including the Touch pressed foundation and powder, lipstain in Shy (and yes it stays put!) I decided to leave the lips matte and not apply a clear gloss to give a more true vintage finish and finally their 3D fibre lash mascara to give the lashes that wow factor!

To highlight and contour I used Benefits Hoola contour powder, MAC powder blush in Fleur Power and Lightscape highlighting powder on the cheek and brow bones, MAC waterproof liquid eyeliner to create a gentle but defined winged eye look and finally; MAC's brow pencil in Fling brished through the brows gently.

Eye colours created and blended using MAC eye palette, Shroom, woodwinked and Painterly pot paint as a base. Keeping the eye colours neural and soft helped balance the rest of the look without it looking to OTT! As you will agree i'm sure; Nat has stunning eyes and i wanted to ensure we made them stand out as much as possible.

I absolutely loved the finished look and can definitely say that the products used were incredible! I will most certainly be using them again for my future make up creations. For information on how to get hold of these products see credits and links below.

Make up? Skincare?…Lets get this sorted!

I always love some girl time with my friends, and the long weekend a few weeks back was just perfect as we all sat over looking the stunning Watsons Bay, soaking up the winter sunshine and sipping cocktails together. It was then that we found my nearest and dearest pouring out their skincare/cosmetic issues and frustrations and basically begging me to help them in all things skincare and make up!!

As I listened to each of them talk about their concerns, thoughts and general bewilderment on all things make up and skincare,  I came to realise that there are so many of us out there that; to put it frank are sitting silently and helplessly and basically playing guessing games when it comes to what skincare and make up items they should use. For the first time I started to really understand and see how valuable my knowledge and advice is and that I really want to try and help here!

So, if the thought of walking down the cosmetics aisle in priceline or approaching a make up or skincare counter at DJ's makes your head go into sudden panic and blurr with product overload? Do not fear ladies!  I am going to try my very best to help!

Step 1: Look after your skin! Your skin is the foundation to which your make up sits on, the healthier your skin the better your make up will look, feel and sit on it. Invest in some time with a skincare therapist, maybe book in for a facial and have them prescribe some suitable products for you. Having a background in skincare and as well as my love for all things make up I am also passionate about the skin! Some of my fave brands over the years are Guinot, Dermalogica, Medik8 and Ella Bache. My skincare products have changed over the years, naturally, as my has done also! As I've hit my 30's (and become a Mum!) I have most certainly noticed those first signs of ageing starting to appear. My personal GO TO products each day at the moment are:

Dermaogica Pre Cleanse

Dermaogica Pre Cleanse

Dermalogica Pre Cleanse & Essential Cleansing Solution

Dermalogica Pre Cleanse & Essential Cleansing Solution

Dermalogica Intensive Eye Repair Cream

Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant (2x week)

Medik8 Hydra 360 Day Cream

Medik8 Hydra 360 Day Cream

Step 2: I also recommend adding serums, SPF's and skin primers if possible! (I will leave links to each brand for you to browse further at the end of the blog)

Ella Bache Sensibeatics Serum

Step 3: Find out what REALLY is in your products and the % of each active ingredient. Good skincare can come at a cost I know but I believe it really is an investment in keeping your skin healthy from the inside out. The reason some of these products are more costly than some of the products you would find in a chemist or Priceline/Boots store is the time and pharmaceutical input and ingredients that have gone into creating and making that particular product. You may be someone that wears make up everyday or you may be someone that likes a minimal look or even not wear any most days at all! Good skincare is for everyone (including our men!)

Step 4: When possible, allow your skin to breathe if you do wear make up everyday. Cleansing our skin at the end of each day before we go to bed is so so so important as thats the time when your skin starts to work! Your cell turnover increases and skin renewal takes place = healthier, stronger, clearer skin!

As I mentioned earlier maybe think about booking in at a skincare salon for a facial and ask the skin therapist for some samples for you to try. At the end of the day ladies we all need some time out every now and again!

I'm interested in finding out what WE as women look for and want when it comes to our skincare and make up products. Smell? Texture? Packaging? Cost? Over the coming weeks, I am going to be investigating more into this and blogging on some key make up tips and products so watch this space!

In the meantime I hope some or all of this helps you and here's to happy new skin!

Feeling the chill? Lets warm up your make up look this Winter

I am just loving these warm, caramel, peachy tones for this winter season! I've added a couple of my fave pics and noted so of the products that i've been using lately to help us achieve some of these looks. If you're anything like me, I'm not a fan of fake tan (I may use it for a special occasion during the winter if I need to) but not everyday…I have a 16 month old now and time is somewhat more limited these days shall we say! If you are opting for a fake tan for your wedding day or special event this Winter, keep it natural with a spray tan and only go for a light coverage on your face.

So, my how to guide for that fresh, relaxed, warm glow that we all crave this season is keep products to a minimal! You don't need a million different products for this look. Go for colours that suit you ladies!! It may mean that you need a new/different shade foundation in the winter to the summer months when your skin naturally gets some some. Don't go over the top with the bronzing…a good quality bronzing powder or BB Cream will give you just enough contour and warmth without looking OTT! Try MAC's Give Me Sun Mineralize Skinfinsih Powder, Matte Bronze Powder and Prep & Prime BB Cream (Beauty Balm SPF 30) If you can also, invest in a good quality blush and bronzing powder brush, i've added my recommendations below. I always like to add a small amount of blush to my bronzer (especially for a day look) just to give that rosy/fresh contrast.

Highlight and contour is the rave at the moment, and however much I wish I had KK's cheek bones its not going to happen! I'm naturally fair skinned and fair haired so I need to make sure when I do my contour that the bronzing powder or BB cream is the right tone (not too ruddy) and blends well without too much effort. MAC's soft and gentle Highlighting powder is perfect any skin tone and apply a small amount to the cheek bones, brow bones and crease of the upper lip to create a subtle pout.

Eye shades are subtle but with a bit of edge to them, You don't have to use a liquid dramatic eyeliner to make your eyes pop, using a smokey knoll pencil and blending brush will help y ou create definition without that strict line. Think of a brightening base colour (neutral shade) and blend with peachy, soft browns, gold, autumnal tones keeping the darker shade to the outer edge of the eye to create contrast. Ive been loving Klara Cosmetics peachy shade eyeshadow (No.24) its got a hint of shimmer to it and blends beautifully.

Two of my fave lipgloss and lip colours at the moment for a lot of my Bridal make ups are MAC's Cremesheen Lipstik in Jubilee and Younique's Lipgloss in Luxe and Klara Cosmetics Kiss Proof Lips gloss in shade 03. My Brides especially have been loving them and love the soft, non sticky feel it has when on the lips. For a more dramatic look go for a coral, burnt orange look on the lips - very in this season and can give your winter look a bit of brightness and fun.

Finally keep your brows natural (but defined), I love to get mine tinted regularly as they are very fair and find that this really does shape and define the rest of my face and makes such a difference when I apply eye make up. MAC do a great variety of brow pencils and powders depending on your preference. Just gently flutter the pencil through the brow hairs and try not to "draw" in a line, you want it to look as natural as possible. Always have a brow brush in hand to keep them in place.

So whether it be a new day to day look, you're a bride to be or maybe you have a special event in the coming months ahead, give some of these tips a go! and I hope you enjoy your new warm and radiant winter look this season.

Beauty in the Storm

The storm clouds started to role in during our phototshoot last weekend but come rain, wind (and hail!) nothing was going to stop our team from creating some stunning shots!!

The outdoor shoot was located at the beautiful Little Manly Point on the Northern Beaches of Sydney with the beautiful Jacquie Rodrigues of WINK Models and talented Photographer Darwin Morales.

You would never tell but as the storm developed and the temperature dropped; Jacquie was freezing! But wow! what a professional as I think you will agree with me from the images created! Darwin worked with the natural light amazingly as we scurried from spot to spot chasing what was left of the daylight and finding shelter from the rain!

An eventful, fun and successful shoot with a great team of creatives!

When Beach meets Glamour

From the moment I met with Rachael to discuss her bridal make up, she had a clear idea of the type of look she wanted and I have to say it suited her perfectly!

Rachael wore a lace gown by Pronovias and the always stunning Swarovski jewellery pieces to complement this beautiful look. Rachael's look radiated pure elegance but with a touch of hollywood glamour. The delicate ivory lace fabric of Rachael's Pronovias gown and her fair, flawless skin, worked beautifully against the vibrant bouquets and more dramatic eye, vibrant lip detail and vintage look hair-up style.

If you are a bride to be that loves the glam vintage look but wants to have that dream beach wedding then please have the confidence in knowing that the two combined can work!

I feel however that it is also vitally important that you "feel like you" on your special day. My advice is make sure you feel like YOU and feel confident in that particular look and style especially if you are considering having a more glam look. This is where a make up trial is so important prior to the big day to ensure you and the make up artist are on the same page.

For any of you that know this beautiful Bride, I think you will agree with me that this look was indeed Rachael through and through. Perfection.

Some of the beautiful images you see here of Rachael, Andy and her Bridesmaids were captured by the talented Montana Wilson Photography and taken at Palm Beach on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Keep on scrolling to view product details on how Rachael's look was created.

I created a gentle contour using Benefits contour palette and used MAC's blush in Peaches followed by MAC'S lightscapade highlighting powder on the cheekbones.

For the rest of Rachael's make up look, I used Arbonne's Primer, MAC Studio fix foundation and powder, MAC eyeshadow in Shroom and Max Factors liquid eyeliner. Elyure False lashes (Katy Perry edition) were applied to create volume and depth and immediately made this beautiful brides eyes pop! We then applied the creme d'la creme of lipsticks NARS Lipstick in Shanghai Express. This is a fabulous lipstick and very durable! Highly recommended!

Tuxedo Mask Photoshoot

Last month I had the pleasure of being asked to be involved in a photo-shoot collaboration. The concept was a Tuxedo Mask theme located in the rustic back streets and hidden wonders of Lavender Bay, Sydney. The make up look needed to be some what mysterious but with a flair of elegance and sensual beauty.

With this in mind I chose to keep the eye colour light to help create strong eye definition with the liner and lashes. Soft pastel peachy pink shades we're created using MAC's Brooke Shields Pearl Fusion eye shadow compact, KLARA cosmetics shimmer shadow no.24 and finished with Younique Cosmetics Powder Pot in Sexy for a fab highlight affect. I then added a strong defined winged eye look using a liquid eyeliner and applied Model Rock false lashes for that dramatic masked eye look. It worked so well against the detailed mask!

I LOVE to contour! I used Benefits Powder Pop Contour Kit  and shade Hoola to create the definition along her cheeks with MAC blush in Peaches and Lightscape Highlight along the cheekbones. Foundation used was MAC Studio Fix with Priori Mineral Finish Powder.

The shade of the lips changes slightly during the shoot to create a different look. Shades used were Sportsgirl brand Pout About It lipstick in Deeper Rose and Maybelline's lipstick Are You Red-dy #62. In the first image I created a gentle ombre look adding the bronze powder from the Brooke Shields Pearl Fusion eye shadow compact just to the centre of the lips. Loved this look and so easy!

These final results could not be made possible without the ideas and imagination of our creative team:

Product #4

I am a massive MAC fan and use so many of their makeup products. The Face and Body Foundation is water based and provides a long lasting, natural coverage.  I have found using this foundation on my brides and models lately has given a beautiful, natural finish without feeling too heavy or thick. It comes in a number of different shades and blends perfectly!

To top it off I love that it can be applied finely for either a light delicate natural  coverage  or be developed as much as desired to create a heavier coverage depending on the look you want to achieve. Perfect for those of you that love a tinted moisturiser and don't like a thick textured foundation but want that flawless finish.

Lights Camera Action!

Product #3

I am a big lover of highlighting and could blog about it for hours! Revlon's Photoready Skinlights instantly gives the skin a healthy glow in any light! It brightens and illuminates the skin creating a radiant complexion and can be worn alone or with foundation to diminish dullness and help even out skin tone.  I have been using it on the cheek and brow bones and the results are beautiful. It is a light textured product that doesn't sit heavy or thick on the skin and easy to apply with fingertips or brush.  So get that camera out ladies and be confident in your photo-ready skin!

A New Year = New Opportunities = New Products!

A New Year = New Opportunities = New products!

Ok, so I don’t really know what happened to 2014, but I will admit it was a pretty amazing year for me; I gave birth to our son Josh, and loved exploring the new world of Mumhood & watching him grow this past year, as well as re-launching and re- branding Makeup by Heather and having the opportunity to meet some inspiring people within the make up and wedding industry, and of course meeting many beautiful ladies and creating some gorgeous make up looks for them. Thank you to each of you for travelling this journey with me and for all your on-going support.

Needless to say I am very excited about what 2015 has in store and the opportunities that lie before me!

It is not unknown to people that I do love to shop, and one of my favourite things to do is find new make up products! We are already into February and I have had to buy a bigger make up case just to store all my new and exciting finds!!

Over the coming weeks I am going to blog about some of my new make up finds so stay tuned! I am absolutely loving using them and have been seeing great results. I just had to share my excitement!

So to start the ball rolling, I have added my first product review below! I wish you happy reading and here's to a year full of make up fun and creative opportunities!

Product #1

NARS Orgasm Blush:

I will admit, I had been hesitant to try the well known NARS Orgasm Blush as I am generally anti-glitter! However,  a friend of mine kept raving to me about it and said it's a must have for my kit. I gave it a go and I admit i have been converted.  The shimmer gold tone is very subtle, you don't need a lot of it to get the desired colour and it just gives the right amount of glow without being OTT! Is it going down a treat during these summer months with my brides and models.

So ladies, don't let the gold shimmer put you off,  you may be pleasantly surprised!

Living the Highlight!

I can't get enough of my two fave MAC products at the moment! Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade and Mineralize Blush.

Combining both products can help create definition and natural highlights to the cheekbones. The blush; in the gorgeous vintage shade New Romance, only needs to be applied to the apple of the cheeks to create that healthy summer fresh glow. Apply a small amount of Skinfinish to the brow bones also to highlight the eye area.

For all of my Spring and Summer Brides it's a must have!!

My Bridal tips to happily ever after skin

So you've got the dress sorted, now it’s time to think about your makeup! Make up of course, has all the benefits to help achieve this on the day, but how good will you look and feel knowing you have a healthy and glowing skin too! I hope you find these few simple tips encouraging and helpful as you prepare for your special day.

Tip 1 - Stay healthy!

Ditching processed food for those rich in nutrients is a sure-fire way to get naturally radiant skin. That means skimping on sugars and saturated fats, and embracing fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and wholegrains instead.

Tip 2 - H20!

Water helps hydrate your skin and lips. Fruits and vegetables like green apples, cucumber and kale can greatly hydrate your body too.  Make water your new accessory!! Maintain a proper and healthy diet to avoid breakouts and other skin diseases and don’t forget your daily dose of vitamins and minerals.

Tip 3 - Keep your skin clean!
Ensure you cleanse your face morning and night with a gentle facial cleanser suitable for your skin type to remove oil, grease, impurities. Always make it priority however tired you are to remove all traces of make up before you go to bed!

Tip 4 -  Exfoliate once a week.
Exfoliation can help remove dead skin and can brighten dull and tired-looking skin. It also deep cleanses your skin and removes commedones (blackheads). Microdermabrasion is a fantastic form of deep exfoliation, it will also help tighten your skin, make your pores look smaller and keep your skin smooth and radiant.

Tip 5 - Moisturise
Apply a suitable moisturiser morning and night to keep the skin hydrated and supple. This will also help act as a barrier against harsh external factors such as weather conditions, pollutions etc.

Tip 6 - Summer is almost here!
Use sunscreen or sunblock to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Getting a small amount of vitamin D each day is known to be good for the skin as well as your wellbeing, but too much sun exposure can cause wrinkles and pigmentation and you definitely don’t want to have tired, uneven and damaged skin on your wedding day!

Tip 7 - Get Active!
Not only do you want to achieve healthy, glowing skin, but you also want to feel your best. Some exercise and regular amounts of sleep are a must!

Tip 8 - Time out! (Yes you need it!)
With all the stress that comes with wedding planning, take some time to relax. Too much stress can lead to lack of sleep and energy and your skin will definitely pay for it. I remember appreciating a spa day with my bridesmaids to relax and unwind and just enjoy some much needed pampering before my big day!

A good skin care regimen is important to maintain a healthy, youthful glow. You might not see any results right away, but in the long run, you’ll see a great difference on your skin and your make up and you’ll thank yourself for taking good care of it early on when you come to your wedding day.

Go on give it a go and start your countdown to having happily ever after skin.

A wedding showered with love

I had the pleasure of doing the make up for the Beautiful bride Heather and her bridesmaids earlier this month.

Heather wanted a natural fresh make up look to match the theme and feel of her wedding. She looked a vision of elegance in her white lace detailed gown and colorful, simple flowers woven through her hair and holding a bouquet splashed with vibrant colour.

With a mixture of warm pinks and nude tones, Heather's make up complemented her natural beauty perfectly.

Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your special day.
